June 23, 2009 - How Does An Anthropologist View The Film?

We recently had a chance to interview Dr. Jim Yost, a well-known authority on indigenous cultures in the Amazon region. He talks about the spiritual world of the Yanomamö and the issue of culture change for indigenous peoples. You can hear his comments on our "TRAILERS" page. (click here)

May 19, 2009 - Two Denver Screenings This Week

Meet Mike Dawson, a man who grew up with and still lives with the Yanomamö in Venezuela. He is coming to Denver this week to talk about the film and what is happening today among the Yanomamö communities in Venezuela.

We have two special screenings of the film scheduled:

  • Thursday, May 21, 6:30 PM - at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Denver.
  • Friday, May 22, 5:00 PM - at University of Denver, hosted by the Honors Program at DU.

Details of both events can be found on our community site events page (click here).

May 5, 2009 - Special Screenings

We're still working on broader distribution for the film. This month our sales agent will be at the Cannes Film Market in France to screen the film for overseas buyers. We have had inquiries from several companies and are patiently waiting for things to develop.

Two upcoming screenings are on the calendar. This week (May 8th) there is a screening in southern California. The other is in the Denver area on May 21st. You can get more information on our film community site.

We are also working right now on a limited theatrical run for the film in Denver. The Denver Film Society is interested in a screening at the Starz FilmCenter in the coming months. When dates are set, we'll spread word via our e-mail lists (sign up above) and our other social networks (Facebook & Twitter)

March 30, 2009 - European TV/Film Market

We are pleased to be a part of MIP-TV this week in Cannes, France. The Enemy God is being promoted by our distributor at the large media market held this week (Mar 30- Apr 3).  The market is where films like ours are purchased by broadcasters all over Europe and the rest of the world.

Our aim is to license the film to television stations and home video distributors in different countries. We are one of many, many films and television shows at the market. We are hoping that The Enemy God 'clicks' in a special way with programmers in Europe.

February 3, 2009 - On-Line Community Launched

How would you like to ask a question of the Director, get more 'behind-the-scenes' information about the film and how we made it, or learn more about the world of the Yanomamö from folks who live with them? Now we have a place where that happens: our Behind The Enemy God on-line community.

Many of the crewmembers who worked on the film are members, as are a few castmembers, including one of our K'ekchi stars! We are posting new photos and videos, and there are blog articles and discussions where you can ask questions and learn more about the Yanomamö and the film itself.

Please join us and join the conversation. Just click on the 'COMMUNITY' tab on this page (above). We would love to hear from you, your questions, and your comments if you've seen the film.

January 26, 2009 - DVDs available!

We are pleased to announce that we have revised this site to include two new features. First, we have a "store" tab that will lead you to the place where you can purchase our "pre-release edition" DVD. This DVD includes the whole film, plus a behind-the-scenes video, a short documentary that explores the worldview of the Yanomamo, and a movie trailer.  Click here to go directly to the store.

Second, we have a new "community" tab on this site which takes you to "Behind The Enemy God", a place where fans of the film and inquisitive on-lookers can ask questions, post comments, and learn more about the film and the Yanomamo themselves. This community will grow over time. Be sure to lend your voice by becoming a member today.

November 25, 2008 - European screening

Our first screening on the Continent was a great success. It was a new experience to watch the film with both Italian and English subtitiles. The audience gathered for the Sabaoth Int'l Film Festival in Milan, Italy really loved the film and we had many great conversations after the screening. Europe is very culturally diverse and we are looking for the best ways to make the film available in European language versions.

October 29, 2008 - Best Director award from the Arpa Festival

Arpa Best Director Award

• We are very pleased that Christopher Bessette was recognized by the Arpa International Film Festival jurors for his amazing work as Director of The Enemy God. The film also received nominations for Best Screenplay (also Christopher's work) and Best Feature Film.

Many people commented on the power and uniqueness of the film. Here is what the Festival Director, Alex Kalognomos said about it,

"This challenges you. This rewards you. This opens your heart. This just penetrates your soul and makes a remote people that you may not think you have a lot in common with, you realize their identity is as important to them as it is with those of us who are so swept away with our own modern lives.

It took the integrity and the truth that is inherent in documentary film making and put it into a feature film in a way I had never seen before. This is something that is totally innovative about this film."

Our deepest thanks to all of the festival organizers for a great festival.

Recent developments

• It is a busy time for us! Two more festivals have invited us to screen The Enemy God  film: the Swansea Life Film Festival  in Swansea, Wales, UK, and the Talking Stick Film Festival  in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Swansea is in early-June, Talking Stick is late-June. The Swansea festival offers our first opportunity to screen the film in the UK's biggest festival. The Talking Stick Festival is focused on indigenous stories, issues, and spirituality. We are very grateful to be able to help bring the Yanomamö story to these audiences.
